The main storage and source of data for designers are tables. It could be Google Sheet provided by your manager or analyst, or CSV file downloaded directly from your system. Let’s take a look at how to visualize that data directly in Sketch, Figma (soon) and Adobe XD (soon) using Chart plugin.

Copy-paste tabular data

The simplest way to get data from one of the table apps: Excel, Numbers, Google sheets to Chart — use copy-paste. Data from your clipboard will be automatically parsed and correctly placed in the table in Chart. If you want to include labels for X-axe, just place it in the first row and tick checkbox “The first row is Header”.

Live connection with Google Sheets

In case your data changes over time, the best option to store it in Google Sheet and link this data source with Chart to have an ability to update Chart when your GS will be updated.

To connect GS with Chart do the following steps:
1. Click Share button in Google Sheet. Make sure that anyone with the link can view the spreadsheet;
2. Copy sharable link;
3. In Chart go to the Table tab, click Link with Google Sheets;
4. Paste link in textarea and press Sync with GS button.
This connection works only with the first sheet.

Use local CSV files

Even if you have just a CSV file you are able to upload it to the Chart and visualize. Go to the Table tab, click upload CSV and select file on your computer — it will be parsed and pasted to the Chart dialog creation.
