Brief Overview on the Latin American Nuevo Canción Musical Movement

Some of my favorite singers from the Nuevo Canción era. They were all singers who were reviving Andean music, and bringing it back to the mainstream in the 60s and 70s in South American countries. Many of them were brutally tortured, murdered, or had to go on exile because of authoritarian governments suppressing their freedom of speech, and their very optimistic stance on civil rights and social change. The figures here in order are Violetta Parra, Victor Jara, and Mercedes Sosa. For those of you that don’t mind listening to music in a different language, or Spanish music for that matter, I recommend Nuevo Canción artists.
