3 Stupid Fears

Tony Robbins. Probably the mere mention of his name may intrigue or annoy. So let’s not talk about him, only as reference below.

A few days ago, I let go of a few things I had been holding onto that held me back in life. It took a lifetime to develop and hold these ridiculous truths I held myself to and now. ..I’m done! Want to know what they are?

  1. I have to get loud or angry in order to be heard.
  2. I can’t pursue the things I enjoy because they don’t add any ‘real’ value (e.g. financial).
  3. I’m not a real Indian.

Sound stupid? Yeah. Pretty stupid. What’s the real truth here?

  1. People are drawn to me because of who I am — my passion, my energy and how I make them feel. I don’t need to raise my voice to be heard. I just need to be me and make my point.
  2. The things I love — I am actually GOOD at them. They energize me, and when I’m energized, I can energize everyone around me and be a better person for them. I can add love.
  3. I’m even MORE Indian than those who were born and brought up in India because even though I was born here, I choose to be Indian. I choose, every day to learn about where my parents are from. I choose to visit that country, to learn about its foods, languages and people. I didn’t have to. I choose to!

Ok, now can I talk about Tony Robbins? Just a little? I want to explain how I dispelled those three truths and replaced them with new ones. You can stop reading here if you want. I attended for the first time an event Tony Robbins puts on called ‘Unleash the Power Within’. In this event we were asked to identify three limiting beliefs we had about ourselves, these were things that were holding us back from living the lives we wanted. We were asked to write down what negative effects having these beliefs had and we visualized (and this was awful) what life would be like 5, 10, 20 years down the line if we kept going the way we were. I never felt so grateful to have so many years ahead of me to change all this! I imagined my husband leaving me because I was so angry all the time, my child growing up hating me, being completely cut off from my culture and being in a miserable job to pay bills because I gave up acting and never started writing.

THEN! He had us visualize how different our lives would be with the new beliefs we put in place. I imagined going on auditions, winning awards, helping feed people, having a game night with my family, travelling with my husband and so much more. I wanted that.

Yes, I did!
