‘Brooklyn Tower’ by Shop Architects Celebrates Completion of Its Crown
Brooklyn, New York is soaring to new heights with the completion of the new ornamental crown of SHoP Architects’ supertall Brooklyn tower. The impressive 93-storey skyscraper by JDS Development has become a landmark for the district, its top visible from the tree-lined streets deep into the district. With its mix of residential and commercial spaces, Brooklyn Tower is poised to redefine the way New Yorkers live and work in downtown Brooklyn. When complete — a milestone expected this spring — it will be the first and only skyscraper of its kind in the region.
With its Brooklyn Building, SHoP Architects pays homage to the historic Dime Savings Bank with a modern and symbolic expression of its Art Deco heritage. The building’s crown, which combines baroque style with modern details, is “dramatic and playful”. Blackened steel, copper and bronze pilasters add to the verticality of the building’s height and soar skyward beyond the confines of its flat roof.
