Disclaimer: I do not have all of the key details of Transflo’s user base, and I am making assumptions, based on limited information. This article is simply me diving into a really cool idea and exploring a feature that seems intriguing, although it may not be possible due to certain limitations.

Who is Transflo?

Transflo is a company that aims to revolutionize the transportation industry in North America. They use mobile and cloud-based technologies to facilitate communication across all individuals in the transportation industry. Transflo also plays a significant role in digitizing a massive volume of shipping documents annually, totaling approximately $115 billion in freight bills, and their Mobile+ app has been downloaded over 2.2 million times. Organizations within Transflo’s ecosystem utilize their comprehensive suite of solutions and digital platform to enhance operational efficiency, optimize cash flow, and reduce costs.

What is Telematics In-Cab Camera

Telematics in-cab camera is a cameria drivers can place on the windshield. It records footage of both the drivers perspective as well as their trucks surroundings. The key advantages are:

  1. Objective Evidence: In case a driver gets in an accident the in-cab camera provides a clear and unbiased look at what really happened
  2. Faster Claim Resolution: When clear video evidence is provided insurance claims will be resolved much faster.
  3. Improved Safety: Not only does the in-cam camera help after an accident, it also helps identify areas for improvement in driver training
  4. Legal Protection: The in-cab video can also provide as evidence in court, this will help protect drivers from unwarrented legal action.

Who Uses This?

V1 of In-Cab Dashboard (Supervisor View)

My proposed solution is to create a workflow within the Transflo app that is accessible to both supervisors and truck drivers.

I created a lofi V1 of how the supervisors’ view many look. You can see all of the design decisions I made below the video.

Considerations

Interconnectedness

When looking at this application something that would be incredibly unique would be if we could build the application to be conncted with the service that process any legal action. This way supervisors would have their exact next steps within Transflo and they wouldn’t have to interrupt their workflow by leaving the application.

Truck Drivers Opinions

Putting in-cab cameras in the truck may not be favorable by every trunk driver, even though it would protect them if anything were to happen. Truck drivers pushing back against this is definitely something to consider.

Next Steps

User Testing

Moving forward I would love to get in front of users (both truck drivers and suoerviors) and get their feedback on this idea. Once I have some more feedback we can build out the application to include more user-centered features.

Dashboard

After receiving user feedback I would like to build out an overall dashboard. This could show users the ROI on the in-cab camera as well as start building customized tips on how to build better driving habits and trainings.
