Interesting article, I agree.

Purpose No 1 of this chair is probably not to be too comfortable — a restaurant like Migros wants turnover.

Purpose No 2 could be: Don’t make the chair look too good, so people don’t steal it and take it home.

But then again, it could just be bad design: Why did they design arm rests if not for more comfort? They could have just gone for a simple chair.

(On the other hand: They maybe decided to have arm rests so it looks comfortable and attracts people to sit down.)

Boy, I will never again be able to go past those chairs without design questions coming up.
