Introduction of the ASUS Z97-A

After looking at a few less expensive video card options recently, it’s time to return to the delightful world of motherboards. We plan to spend the next few weeks working our way through the Z97 motherboards that are circulating around the workplace, as the new high-end X99 chipset is due out in about a month. Of course, it’s important to realize that the X99 chipset will not replace the Z97, but rather will work side by side it to cater to two different user groups. The X99 is designed for power users that want to get the most out of their computers. The Z97 chipset, on the other hand, is targeted at those who want something in the center of the pack with more value.

Today we’re going to have a look at another ASUS Intel Z97 motherboard. We’ve looked at a few so far, and they’ve all done a fantastic job at impressing us. This one comes in at a lower price point, making it a more attractive alternative for us. It’s also the first ASUS board we’ve used that will use our new Intel i7–4790K processor. We already know a lot about both ASUS and the Intel Z97 chipset, so there’s no need to go into too much detail. So, with that out of the way, let’s dive into the package and see what ASUS has to offer with its Z97-A motherboard today.
