Consumer sovereignty in the modern day has been intruded upon — by the State. The intrusion by the State on an otherwise libertarian construct, the market, cannot be blamed upon libertarians or a flaw in libertarian thought.

Even with those intrusions, by which the State regulates what we may drink, eat, smoke etc… and some companies get in bed with the State to use such regulations are barriers to entry, for the most part, the way to satiate profit motive remains meeting consumer preference. That is why there are so many focus groups, for example.
