From Engineer to Manager: keeping your technical skills
Joan Gamell

This is sound advice — thank you. As an engineering manager, I totally agree you need to give the team the cool design and coding work — the way I keep my tech chops and my understanding of how systems have been coded is to write some of the instrumentation and telemetry for them, and help solve some of the tricky performance issues. That way I’m living and breathing the toolchain alongside the team, and understanding where the system is going.
