Yeah, I think voice and tone is such an interesting thing to test. Sometimes, tests focus too much usability (can users get the task done?) without testing for how they actually feel during the task.

One approach I’ve used in the past to test whether users perceived intended voice and tone, is to show them copy text in my products and ask them describe what they felt. That is, whether it was ‘friendly’, ‘robotic’ etc.
