In truth, Facebook does offer you some choice to change those settings here. This requires trusting them that they do change their behaviour according to your preferences though. The tool also offers some visual feedback on the data they have, but there are inconsistencies with what you get when you ask for a “data checkout”. In any case that checkout only provides limited information. That’s part of the reasons for my efforts. With more transparency, more people can check, or even design more active experiments.
