Your path/story is totally legit, and I agree that University is not the only path; and that’s a very good thing.
The point I was trying to make with this comment though is that dismissing University out of hand entirely, for everyone, regardless of personal context or circumstance, is too unilateral. Not everyone at 18 knows that they want to code for life; and even if they do code, not all study outside-the-job can be dismissed as useless. That’s all.
I can understand the emotion that produces this kind of a title, though. And to be fair, Eric has also written elsewhere on this general subject in more detail, in more depth, that complements this take.
