AR Meets the Deskless Lab Worker: Why We Invested in Apprentice.io
Today we are announcing our lead investment in Apprentice. Over the past months, the executive team at Apprentice and I have been eagerly waiting to share the news, almost giddy at points. We’re honored to partner with this incredibly talented group of experts, tackling one of the largest opportunities for the Future of Enterprise.
Apprentice is building a suite of purpose-built, verticalized enterprise applications for wearables and other mobile devices. The company is starting with a deep focus on the $150B+ pharmaceutical R&D market which employs millions of deskless laboratory workers around the world who must use their hands to get work done (e.g., scientists, technicians, line staff).
Modern labs are technical marvels. They are at the forefront of innovation and home to scientific discovery, biological creation and cutting-edge manufacturing. Despite these advancements, the way work is done has not allowed the deskless lab worker to keep up with the pressures brought upon them by competition (speed to market), regulation (countless audit requirements), and technology automation (AI, ML, IoT).
Binders of laminated standard operating procedures are still the norm.
Black and white notebooks for writing down lab results are still the norm.
Scientists reading out instructions to each other are still the norm.
Waiting weeks for remote experts to arrive onsite is still the norm.
Wearing gloves, gowns and hoods that make using a mobile device nearly impossible is still..the..norm.
When we witnessed Apprentice’s voice and AI powered workflow solutions, it was clear to us that their technology was best-in-class, purpose built for the industry and intuitive to use. We are confident that in the long run, they won’t just empower the lab worker, but the 2B+ deskless workforce around the globe.
If you’re looking to join a fast growing company and tackle the next large opportunity within the enterprise, there are incredible roles available on the Apprentice team here.
Thank you Angelo, Gary and Nabil for allowing us to be part of the Apprentice journey…and welcome to the PGVC family!
Founders: if you’re working on emerging enterprise applications for the future of work, I’d love to hear from you!
