How PDS has brought open-source bundling to Arweave
Who we are
We are Permanent Data Solutions (PDS) and for the past three years we’ve been building a suite of web3 apps and infrastructure that power the permaweb — a permanent decentralized internet. Our mission is simple: get permanent data storage into the hands of everyone.
We are the team behind ArDrive, the open source consumer-friendly app and developer platform, which enables anyone to upload, manage, secure, and share data on the permaweb. We are building the AR.IO Network, an ecosystem dedicated to sustaining access to digital permanence, making the permaweb available to all.
We also operate Arweave’s largest community gateway, arweave.net. Our team stewards this gateway in partnership with Fwd Research, who own and control the domain and gateway rights.
The core principle of Arweave is to create a permanent and reliable archive for all of humanity’s information, unrestricted and open. Arweave enables communication across time with this core ethos of being censorship-resistant and available to everyone. It’s decentralized and open ledger enables a new permanent web that helps to fix some of the issues on the web today.
PDS believes that the core principles of decentralization and open source software unlock the doors of digital preservation — welcoming all to contribute, share, and safeguard the collective memory. This eliminates the concern over one centralized entity that could crumble at anytime or have control over your data. The democratization of permanent data empowers humanity to write its own epic on the unyielding canvas of time. No single entity controls the past and all voices survive for generations to come.
Boosting Turbo
The “crypto drama” from earlier this week presented our team with an opportunity to provide a critical service for the ecosystem by enhancing Turbo and giving more options for users to upload their data while making it seamless to migrate away from Irys. Turbo is an open source bundler* originally designed to allow for fiat payments on ArDrive.
*A bundler is a service responsible for accepting transactions or data items from users, packaging them together, and posting them to the Arweave network as a single larger transaction with a guarantee that they will be uploaded.
It’s built for enterprise level scale and security, having been trusted by Meta to handle their uploads to Arweave.

This situation has exposed (for yet another time) that global reliance on centrally controlled services IS. NOT. HEALTHY.
Users should have options and blockchain networks should have client diversity.
If we’re serious about securing data forever, we must strive for robust decentralized open source software and infrastructure. Where these options are not available, then centralized services should be transparent and as open as possible. They should be verifiable and allow anyone to run their own version. We built Turbo on these principles and will continue to evolve it to the needs of the community.
As Sam Williams likes to say: build protocols not productocols.
