Commissioner Amanda Fritz says she will close her office next week to take her six staff members to a retreat in Arizona to learn about diversity. She declined to speak with reporters, but she told The Oregonian/OregonLive’s editorial board Friday that the trip is expected to cost around $40,000.
The program charges $4,750 per person for tuition, lodging, meals and site fees.
Let’s do the math:
- Cost taxpayers = $40,000
- Cost of the program, lodging, and meals: $4,750 per person x 7 = $33,250.
- Non-stop airfare shouldn’t be more than $525 per person x 7 = $3,675.
- Ground transportation (14 passenger van): $320 each way x2 = $640.
- Unexplained expenses = $2,435. That’s almost $350 per person.
