Microsoft has decided to discontinue updates and remove WordPad

Microsoft has decided to discontinue updates and remove WordPad, the basic word processing app that has been a part of Windows since Windows 95.

Instead, the company will suggest using Microsoft Word for rich text documents and Windows Notepad for plain text documents.

WordPad has received few updates since Windows 8, while Microsoft recently enhanced Notepad with features like autosave and tab restoration.

The removal of WordPad is expected to take place in a future Windows release, likely Windows 12, which is anticipated to feature AI-powered enhancements in 2024.
