Introduction

Stacey Parks Milburn was a prominent disability rights activist and advocate whose indelible contributions have left a lasting impact on the movement. Born with a congenital neuromuscular disease, Stacey experienced firsthand the challenges and obstacles faced by individuals with disabilities. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to advocating for access, inclusion, and justice.

Stacy Park Milburn’s importance to the disability rights movement stems from her unwavering commitment to interconnectedness and her tireless efforts to amplify the voices of marginalized communities. She recognized that disability rights could not be separated from other forms of oppression and worked diligently to challenge ableism, racism, sexism, and other intertwined forms of discrimination.

As a powerful advocate, Stacey advocated for the rights of persons with disabilities to equal opportunities, access to health care, education, and employment. She was an influential force in raising awareness of the importance of inclusive design and in removing the physical, social and systemic barriers that restrict the full participation of people with disabilities in society.
