Peach: Our Texts Got a Makeover!

New Peach text format

It was our core feature, the opening act if you will — you get a text in the morning with that day’s dish. Meat, Veg, or Lite: Whichever preference you chose was supposed to light up your screen at 9:30 A.M and prompt you to order a delicious lunch that day.

One dish, one decision — didn’t you hear the news, “reduced decision making” is in vogue!

Alas, it turns out our users want to see more! We spend so much time with our partner restaurants, crafting the perfect lunch dish; we always assumed you wanted to see that 1 dish that pertains to you — the Meat dish, the Veg dish, or the Lite dish. But we were doing ourselves a disservice, every day we weren’t showing you the other two lunches that we had carefully crafted.

It was time to revamp our morning dish texts. It was time to show more.

This was more than a design challenge, it was a product challenge, an engineering challenge, a business challenge; this was an everything challenge. How do you make multiple options look clean? How do you order a specific dish when you’re seeing three of them? Do users want to choose between dishes or is simplicity being thrown out the window?

However, in true Peach fashion — we made it work. And we made it work fast. Within 7 days time we had mock-ups, strategies, and solid code behind having a menu-esque text. Using multiple threads of user feedback we came up with our version of what a ‘smart’ menu should look like!

Over the last few weeks, you may have noticed that some people were starting to receive the new text before you. This is something we do to make sure that we’re interpreting your feedback properly. You tell us what you want, we always listen, and then we come up with solutions to meet your needs.

Sometimes we get it right on the first try! But more often than not, it takes a couple of tries. What you’re seeing is the result of careful design and testing to make sure it’s what you’re looking for.

It’s all about you! Tell us what you think of the new text layout in the comments.

Stay Peachy. Love your lunch.
