Fight Fire with Fire

Or, tremors with tremors.

When it comes to occupational therapy, new advances are being made ALL THE TIME. It’s hard to keep track of everything, so when I see something that catches my eye, I like to jot it down to remember it for later. This particular discovery is a “they have those?!?” type discoveries.

Imagine yourself with Parkinsons. Your tremble wasn’t always this bad, but it’s getting worse. You’re in therapy but you struggle keeping your hands and wrists quiet. Basic activities such as eating are getting to be a challenge for not only yourself, but your loved ones. You’d like to be able to go to a restaurant again, but you’re too afraid of embarrassment. What do you do?

  1. Never go out to eat again, or
  2. Buy some liftware.

This simple device blows my mind. I can’t even begin to imagine how liberating something like this must feel to someone who needs it. Not only does this device foster independence, it also reduces isolation and encourages healthy habits.

I, for one, can’t wait to see this product take off and become more accessible for those who need it.
