Our morning in Boulder began at 8am when we met with David Giltner, founder of Turning Science and a member of the Social and Advisory Group for Entrepreneurs (SAGE) here.

We asked David what makes Boulder a great place to be an entrepreneur? “One of the great things is the give first mentality. It’s amazing how many people you find in the entrepreneurial community here who are willing to donate time and knowledge to help other people.” This give first attitude was something we encountered first hand at the Galvanise accelerator where we were invited to a pitch by local entrepreneur Eric Darst for his new venture Flowh. The pitch was attended by many local VC’s and investors who offered their insights and advice free of charge.

There we also met Susan E. String, the Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Colorado Boulder (UCB) and Executive Director of SAGE Boulder. She emphasized again the importance of collaboration and mentorship in success the start-up ecosystem here.
We weren’t the only international attendees present as the crowd was littered with international business students from UCB. From Chile to China, they shared with us their startup experiences from around the globe.

With views of the Flatirons high up in the Rockies, it’s easy to see why some of the most talented young entrepreneurs move here to start their companies! We’ve been recording a huge amount of conversations with people on our travels for a short podcast series. Watch this space!
