In the investing world, every one is trying to maximize their returns on their investments. People usually want to buy something that is going to increase in value, because that’s how they make a profit.

However, what if I told you there was one type of investment that is almost always going to net you a positive return, no matter when you start, no matter how much you put in it?

This type of investment is known as the investment in yourself. When you invest in yourself, the amount of return depends on the amount of effort that you put into turning yourself into a better person, in all aspects of life. To turn yourself into a better person involves an unquenchable desire to learn.

Learning is the only way to acquire new knowledge to make our lives more efficient. You can think of this type of learning as the same kind of learning done in school, but instead of learning about a new academic subject, you’re learning about ways to improve your life, and this might involve studying subjects like how to accomplish more in less time, how to be more efficient in what you do, or how to steer the direction of a conversation with a complete stranger.

The world contains an endless supply of knowledge right at our fingertips thanks to the Internet. All we have to do is reach out and take the first step. Of course, all this information on the web can also be overwhelming, and it’s hard to figure out where to start. However, we should also look at our journey of self-improvement not as a sprint but as a marathon. We can divide this journey into chunks, focusing on one segment at a time. For instance, today we can first focus on how to be more time efficient. Tomorrow, we can focus on how to maintain conversation with a complete stranger.

Even if we just improve 1% of ourselves everyday, we’ll be twice as better as a person in merely 3 months. The changes you see everyday may not be a lot, just like when you first start to work out, you’re probably not going to see any muscle, but once you look back at your progress after a few months, the results can be staggering.

Everything starts with you. And if you stop moving forward, you’ll always be in the same place. It’s as simple as that.
