So I’m a law student and in my clinic we did a fair bit of representation of guardian ad litems (in MN they have to be represented by an attorney) for child abuse cases, and I always had SO much respect for the PDs who represent the parents. Like, you guys are dealing with folks who are most likely going through the hardest time in their lives, and I know it’s not an easy population to deal with. A lot of people think that neglectful parents don’t deserve the amount of process they get, but rights are rights.
What pisses me off to no end are the 1L idiots who think if everything else falls through, they can “just” be a public defender. LOL. UM. EXCUSE ME? Public defense jobs are HARD to come by these days. Most of the people I know who are PDs now spent every summer during law school working full time FOR FREE at PD offices and usually worked there during the school year as well. Even these people still have a hard time getting a job ANYWHERE, like even buttfuck Indiana counties get hundreds of job applications every time they post a PD opening. Oh, you want to be a PD in Cook County, IL? Good luck bud. It’s not a field that you can just fall into.
