On a Day Like Today

I woke from my Dream.

I see the stars as they should be seen.

I smell the Lily and the Rose,

And take the Heather from the meadows.

I found my thoughts were running away.

I stood for a while until I fell again.

If they are there, I cannot see the stars.

If I tried to touch I’d find only Scars.

My dream keeps my mind on my brain

Until I can learn to wake again.

I sleep and Wake and wake and sleep.

Walk and breathe and lose and keep.

To breathe in peace and let go of pain,

To find my soul and see her Sane.

I can’t let go now,

Even though I know how,

Even though it is what I need.

My dream does lie so I must lead,

Myself into the home where we found our hope,

And find no end to the love we spoke.
