Having a Boss or Being the Boss Top 5 Differences

This is a post topic I have been sitting on for a while but after seeing a great potential franchisee decide to stay with their weekly wage even though they openly admitted that their job was making them miserable has spurred me to write a comparison piece on the main differences between getting a weekly allowance for your most valuable commodity and taking complete control over your life and be in charge of your future.
Difference #1
The first difference between having a boss and being the boss is being in charge of your time which to me is the most valuable thing in anyone’s life. Time is finite, whilst money can come & go, happiness is fleeting, success can be attained even after failure. Time can never be regained so why sell it to someone and give them control over when and where you must be for 5–6days a week 48weeks a year. If you think the most unique and precious and finite commodity you have is worth selling to someone else and you find it fulfilling and rewarding then this particular post is probably not for you. But if it has sparked your intrigue than please read on to discover more differences.
Difference #2
Being the boss is about more than you see in the movies sitting in an office giving commands to your employees and reaping all the profits. Being the boss above all else means taking complete and full responsibility for yourself. Every aspect of your life becomes completely in your control. For some, this is too scary and they cower back to the perceived safety of having a boss. But for the enlightened few, regaining complete control over the aspect of life that takes up so much of your time/energy is super exciting and the only reasonable choice to make.
Difference #3
We took these definitions directly from businessdictionary.com
Employer: A legal entity that controls and directs a servant or worker under an express or implied contract of employment and pays (or is obligated to pay) him or her salary or wages in compensation.
Employee: An individual who works part-time or full-time under a contract of employment, whether oral or written, express or implied, and has recognized rights and duties. Also called worker.
Whilst the definition of employer seems cold and harsh. At least it puts you in the driver’s seat.
Difference #4
Having a boss often means getting comfortable on a steady wage and not getting outside of your comfort zone and taking on responsibility to grow. I call it the beginning of death. When you become the boss, you take control of all decisions and have to continually grow and continue to learn which for me is what life is all about, learning and growing as much and as often as possible. When you stop doing this and get comfortable where you are. Well, to put it quite bluntly, that is when you start dying. When a plant or organism stops growing, this is the exact moment it has crossed over from life and begins the slow journey to death. Grim but true. If we never stop learning and growing our life will continue to evolve and will be full of life and joy.
Difference #5
Following the rules or colouring outside the lines. When you have a boss, most of the time it means you have a set of rules and guidelines you must follow. Much like being a child with a bedtime, an allowance, chores to do and hours you need to be home. Having a boss means, set weekly allowance for being in a certain place at certain times and not breaking any of the rules. When you are the boss, you have the power and ability to break the rules, provided you don’t behave illegally you are in complete control of every decision you make. Essentially you become the parent and take charge of your life like a good parent should.
I guess if I had to make only 1 comparison of the difference of having a boss and being the boss is…being the boss is being mummy or daddy and being in charge of everything that happens. Having a boss means being a baby or child again and needing to have someone tell you when to be somewhere, what tasks to do and set you rules, guidelines and the times you can go home and be with your loved ones.
For me, being the boss will always win hands down as it means a life of learning, growing and responsibility. We get to set the agenda of our lives and control what happens to us and when.
I personally grew out of pocket money when I was about 8years old and have no intentions of ever going back.
Until Next Time.
