“Change is neither good or bad. It simply is.”- Don Draper, Mad Men

And while change is not always welcome, sometimes it’s necessary.

At Peerfit, our mission is to empower individuals to live healthy and active lifestyles. By empowering our users, we want the Peerfit experience to be their own, no matter where they are in their wellness journey.

At the beginning of 2018, we set out to become WCAG compliant. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines allows for website content to be accessible for individuals with disabilities, device limitations, and more.

According to the US Census Bureau, approximately 20 percent of the population have some sort of vision, hearing, or physical disability, which amounts to almost 47 million Americans.

As we continue to be the market leader in providing flexible fitness solutions to the corporate wellness industry, we want to make sure that every Peerfitter has the same experience as the next, and this is just one small step in the right direction.

WCAG Levels A and AA are the standards we’re adhering to at this time. These guidelines pertain to the use of color and contrast.

  • Color: Color is not used as the only visual means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element.
  • Contrast: The visual presentation of text and images of text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1.

Which meant our color palette had to go. As much as we tried to create some resemblance of our original colors, it didn’t visually translate into a completed color palette.

Old Color Palette

But, we were able to hold onto one color: our “Peerfit blue”. In addition, we were able to expand the palette to include secondary colors to provide variety throughout our visual mediums.

New Color Palette

“Our evolved color palette is a reflection of our brand — bold, fun, and inclusive — while complying with WCAG AA standards to accommodate everyone. Inclusion is what we strive for at Peerfit.” - Miquel Kendrick, Senior Product Designer and fellow Peerfitter, hired August 2015.

And here is how it will translate to our website and mobile apps.

So while we may look a little different, we’re still Peerfit at our core. A new coat of paint won’t change that; it will just shine a little differently.

Changes will start to roll out on September 27th, 2018.
