It’s officially the season of giving, and in honor of #GivingTuesday, we are proud to share that we’ve established a Corporate Social Responsibility committee at Peerfit.

You may be thinking to yourself, “What in the world is a CSR committee?” Well, in short, it’s a committee dedicated to making sure our organization leaves a lasting, positive social impact beyond our normal day-to-day mission. We watched, like the rest of you, as companies like Starbucks announced they were eliminating plastic straws in their stores over the summer, while other companies like Warby Parker have long incorporated a “buy one, give one” approach into their business models. We knew we wanted Peerfit to do something, so, with support from our Leadership team, this is what we came up with.

Starting this month, Peerfit will be joining the ranks of the Deloittes of the world and will begin offering its employees paid volunteer time off. We preach about the importance of personalization and community, so this measure was designed with that in mind.

Under this policy, Peerfitters will now be able to volunteer their time with charities and causes they hold dear in the communities they live in (our team is fully remote, so we have team members across the country). Employees will be encouraged to share their philanthropic efforts with coworkers on Slack, and Peerfit itself has committed to matching Peerfitter-raised funds, so long as requests for funds are made on behalf of organizations with a rating of at least three stars by Charity Navigator. The CSR Committee will be responsible for vetting requests submitted for matching funds and ensuring these organizations align with our company’s values.

At Peerfit, we’re pretty lucky — we get to help people live happier, healthier lives, and we’re able to go to work every day feeling fulfilled with a purpose. But, as Peerfitters, we’re always asking ourselves what else we could be doing, who else we could be helping, and our Corporate Social Responsibility Committee will help us decide just that.
