Thanks Yair. It’s a testament to the adaptability of humans that something as common as a recipe presentation can be a source of such poor, but generally unremarked, usability. Great recognition of a human factors issue! And great analysis, great suggestions.
I’m one of those who will, especially for complicated recipes, gather all the ingredients then move on to the instructions.
But although I gather the ingredients, like a bag of brown sugar for cookies, I usually don’t measure them out until I get to the instruction that calls for the addition of that ingredient. Same as you, I want to minimize number of dishes used.
So it would be very helpful to have the ingredient quantities in the instructions. Obviously, the ingredient quantities would need to be dynamic, for someone who is scaling the recipe up or down, but that’s why we have computers :).
