Two local sailors begin Olympic tryouts

The first of two qualifying regattas begin this week for two local sailors vying for a spot on the 2016 US Olympic Team.

Detroiter Bora Gulari with teammate Louisa Chafee, and Port Huron native Katie Pettibone with teammate Michael Easton are among those in Miami World Cup regatta this week. Both teams are competing for a spot in the Nacra 15 class.

The second qualifying regatta will be in Clearwater, Florida Feb 7–14.

Good luck to both of them. It’s a tribute to the quality of the sailing in the Detroit area that we have two candidates with a shot at an Olympic berth!
