Keto Ep 3

Half-life 3 will never be made and its story was just released. Fuck.

Now that important matters are out of the way, back to my experiment.

I was supposed to wait until today to pee on a testing strip but I thought I needed a control to “make sure the things work”. So I went down to business.

surprise!

I got a bunch of tests strips off of amazon for $10 to make sure I’m actually in ketosis and don’t go into ketoacidosis. My goal is to remain below 5 units (mmol/L) and above 3, so it looks like I’m well underway.

The diet has been great to me so far. No sugar cravings, not really feeling hungry, no keto flu as of today. My only complaint is that it’s getting hard to finish all of my macros. Specifically my fat macros. Yesterday I got protein and carbs done, but after finishing up a crazy concoction made out of peanut butter, heavy whipping cream, and unsweetened cocoa powder, I went to bed 20 grams short of my goal (200 out of 220). So I did what any good scientist would do, and I skewed the rules to play the numbers to my favor.

45 g of fat

I spent some time playing around with different macros calculators and I learned there’s a big correlation between your activity level (kcal burned through the day) and fat consumption, way more so than carbs and protein. This is a crucial number because if you don’t eat enough fat, your body will start breaking down muscle for energy.

Long story short, here are my new numbers — 180 grams of fat, 116 grams of protein, 25 grams of carbs. Oh I also this mornings bio-metrics — 160 lbs, 12.7% fat. Down from 164 lbs, 13.5% fat yesterday. I’m pretty sure most of that weight is water and glucose being spent, and the fat percentage is vague at best, but we’ll see… For now I’m looking having a cup of black coffee, with the bulletproof one on its way in 45 minutes.
