About the Artist
Eva and Franco Mattes were born in Italy in 1976. They are a couple artists based in New York City. Since meeting in Berlin in 1994, they have never separated. They are best known for their subversive and innovative new media work, which exposes various ethical and political ramifications of the Internet as both reality and theory. Often going by the pseudonym 0100101110101101.org, they are hackers, activists, and some of the originators of Net Art. They are living artists.
Formal Analysis
The picture shown above is from the one of Eva and Franco Mattes’ installation work, Exhibition Views. In the gallery, the placement of the monitors in the space is such that, in order to watch the work, viewers are forced into a series of physically awkward and bizarre positions, in a sense taking on the role of performers themselves. The work is straightforward and it doesn’t required to be stand neither close or far from it to get the gut reaction.
Content Analysis
According to the research and the discussion from the internet and Slack’s group talk, Eva and Franco Mattes like to explore the dark quality of human nature in the realm of online media. This time they bring this to the gallery and let people interact with the monitors in a bizarre position. In this way, Mattes want to show people how the today’s media technology is changing people’s life styles and their field of view. We can also notice that viewers have a limit distance with the monitors, and they can feel the stress convey by the monitors completely.

After researching online and browsing several of Eva and Franco Mattes’ artworks, I am so happy that I finally know two artists put their art talent on the things about internet. As a 21st century young man, internet stuff has accompanied with me since I was little. It is much easier for me to resonate something to art through internet stuff. Nowadays, internet is like a line that can connect everyone in the world, everybody can reach to anyone they want to communicate with and share their stuff easily. Aquilizan couple know the function of internet, and they know how to use it to show their art talent to the world and make everyone happy. Like what they said, they want to making art not only for the person next door, but also everyone in the world.
