First Day

Today was the first day of my apprenticeship at 8th Light. I am beyond excited to be starting at such an amazing place.

Once I had finalised that I was starting here, I organised a quick trip to California to see my family. It was really nice to get a chance to see my parents, sister, brother in law, niece, nephew, aunt and grandparents before getting started!

Today was a big admin day; I met with my mentors first thing this morning to discuss how the apprenticeship is going to go. Then got started with some setup!

This afternoon my main focus has been setting up this blog on Jekyll. I’m wanting to keep it separate, but still integrate it with Medium. If all goes according to plan, you’ll be able to see my posts on either Github Pages or Medium!

Tomorrow I’ll finish setting this blog up, hopefully getting a theme to work. Then I’ll get started reading Implementation Patterns by Kent Beck, and start working on a Rails project with the other apprentices.

I am extremely excited about this journey.
