This is often due to the “Publish or perish” attitude in academia. Scientists and researchers feel ENORMOUS pressure to publish to get/keep their jobs, and publications pretty much don’t publish “negative” results, which results in these weak studies getting published. The studies are often sound, but the effects are exaggerated in order to get published.
