America’s unique, in that it was founded by immigrants from countless other countries. There are few countries in the world where a person can run into so many different ethnic groups in a single state, or even city. Thanks to this diversity, a lot of different languages are spoken throughout the United States.

A Fact Check Before We Begin

An interesting and little-known fact is that the United States has no official language at the federal level. While English is generally considered the official language, the federal government never designated it as such.

In a country without a federally official language, many are curious which languages are most commonly spoken. While the majority of the population speaks only one language, there are large populations of native speakers of other languages also.
