What parts are misguided and misinformed? Segwit can be implemented with a hard fork and arguably better as a hard fork.

Bitcoin had an unintentional hard fork occurred and miners worked together to fix it. Other cyptocurrencies have had many planned hard forks with no issues.

Remember 2MB hard fork was seen as perfectly fine by pretty much everyone save for a few developers when big blockers were pushing for 8+MB. 2MB is still doable but I do not want to go through this BS again. A hard fork will have to happen eventually.
