All my working life I said that my job is to eliminate my job to make the organization more efficient and effective. Not to mention to increase profits. I was very successful.
Well almost. Case in point. Here in New Jersey we have meter readers who walk around everyday and report back to the utility their findings. In 1972 I proposed eliminating the human element and conduct this with computers and phone lines. But the union fought it. They are still walking around.
When you eliminate a job you have to provide for the human until retirement. You just can’t through them in the dumpster.
Now I’m out of a job and can’t find one.
