I think some men can end up with damaged understandings of physical intimacy due to the way sex is talked about to us when we are boys. As teenagers, some boys are only lauded for their sexual prowess and athletic ability. This often leads us to feeling the need to prove ourselves or to at least pretend. I often felt stressed when talking to uncles or and peers I respected or wanted to impress. Conversations were often filled with questions about my sexual activity. I lied often because it was the only way to earn their respect. I don’t have the capacity to behave the way your character does, but I think some men do due and outside influences can feed this propensity.
