5 Creative 2016 wedding trends you will fall in love with

Every industry has trends, and weddings are no different. 2015 saw the rise of the flower crown and the naked wedding cake, but what are the best wedding trends of 2016 so far? Here are a few of our favourites we think you’ll love.

Outdoor Lighting

Tea lights in jam jars, long strings of fairy lights looped around the trunks and the branches of trees, multicoloured neon, and festoons of bulbs — brides and grooms are transforming their outdoor lighting from merely practical into incredibly decorative. Lighting is fantastic for creating atmosphere whether you want softly lit romantic corners for guests to canoodle, or a spotlit dance floor where they can show off their moves.

Hanging Gardens

Don’t limit your flowers to bouquets and table centrepieces. When it comes to floral wedding trends in 2016 the only way is up, with floral chandeliers made from flowers and greenery becoming a stylish way of bringing natural beauty and freshness indoors. Floral chandeliers can be as extravagant or pared back as your taste (and budget) allow, and are especially beautiful at night with battery operated fairy lights tucked amongst the blooms.

Bespoke Monograms

Combining your initials to create your monogram is a classic way to personalise your wedding. Have a designer draw a bespoke monogram that you can incorporate into a variety of aspects of your wedding, from your invitations and stationery, to the embroidery on your veil, handkerchief, or tie, and wedding day jewellery. We have even seen couples have their monogram projected onto the wall of their wedding venue in London to great effect.

Family Style Dining

One of the most stressful elements when planning a wedding is working out the seating plan. I can’t begin to tell you how many couples have sailed through the preparations for their big day without a cross word only to nearly split-up over who to seat where! The latest trend for long tables with no seating plan eliminates this problem. Not only can guests sit where they like, the serve-yourself family style food makes it easy for people to swap around and catch up with family and friends for different courses.

Flavoursome Cakes

Our palettes are growing in sophistication and the cake makers I have worked with recently have reported couples choosing new and exciting flavours for their wedding cakes. Chocolate is still popular but it is frequently being mixed with peanut butter or caramel, while coconut and white chocolate are fast becoming a wedding cake staples. Floral flavours, such as rose and lavender, are finding their way into cakes — especially at rustic country weddings, as are fruit liqueurs.

For decades couples have preferred the smooth finish of fondant over buttercream, but now they are letting their tastebuds do the talking and choosing buttercream icing instead.

Being a London wedding planner is always fun and exciting, especially with fresh trends like these which give couples even more scope to personalise their big day and also allows me to be extra creative.
