Can you afford not to have a wedding day coordinator?

Speaking from experience, weddings, and the days leading up to them, are insanely busy for the bride and groom. You may have been told it a hundred times but it really is true that the day will fly past and, before you know it, you’ll be kicking your shoes off and looking at your new spouse in wonder that your hard work and planning over the last 18 months has come to fruition and you’re officially hitched.

In addition to confirming with vendors, making sure all parties are aware of your schedule, and double-checking contingency plans for issues like wet weather or road closures in the days leading up to your wedding, you (or someone who knows your wedding plans intimately) will need to oversee everything on the day and ensure your event flows the way it should.

Wedding Planners fulfil a role you certainly don’t want to do yourself, nor foist on a friend or relative preventing them from enjoying the celebrations.

Avoid Stress

The stress that goes along with running a major event means that more and more couples are turning to an on the day wedding coordinator. After all, who wants to be checking with the caterers when they could be gazing adoringly into their new spouse’s eyes, or clinking champagne glasses with their loved ones?

What Does a Wedding Coordinator Do?

I have certainly seen a rise in the number of couples opting for my Without a Hitch! (Month-Of Coordination Package). They know that by handing the running of their day over to me they can relax and enjoy themselves fully, trusting everything will be handled by a professional, without the need for any of their family or friends to be dragged away from the fun to sort out an issue.

On the day services include, but are definitely not restricted to:

  • Making sure the bride and her bridesmaids are on schedule
  • Checking the groom is getting ready when he should be (you’d be amazed at how long a pre-wedding game of golf can take!)
  • Décor and details prep
  • Rounding up family and friends needed for photos
  • Carrying the emergency wedding kit
  • Paying vendors who need payment on the day, and distributing tips
  • Checking your venues are set up as they should be, with place-cards, favours, etc.
  • Being the contact person for vendors’ queries, and troubleshooting as required
  • Keeping an eye on food and drink to make sure your guests aren’t kept waiting
  • Speeches, toasts, first dances and cake cutting

The benefit of having an experienced event coordinator oversee your wedding day is that there is virtually nothing I haven’t had to deal discreetly with, from re-stocking a bar that had run dry, to finding a last-minute replacement for a makeup artist who had got stuck in traffic, changing table placements to deal with a surprise break-up, and even writing a best man’s speech.

Using an on the day wedding coordinator gives you the best of both worlds, allowing you to choose every aspect of your wedding without having the stress of making sure it all goes the way you want it to.
