Stop Selling Math For Its Usefulness
Sunil Singh

Sadly, arts such as music and literature are also ‘justified’ for their practicality and monetary value.

No matter what the field, it seems like someone is always trying to prove its worth with arguments like:

  • “We must teach music/theater/poetry/etc. because they enhance cognitive skills/social skills/manual dexterity/etc.”,
  • “The arts should be championed and funded because they create jobs/tourism/bring innovation to industry/etc.”

Perhaps what should be taught first of all is that life is richer when we develop our capacity to have appreciation, be curious, and expand knowledge in any field.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
