POWER: What we do with it?
As a child, I believed in the supernatural stories I heard and shows I saw in television. I strongly believed I too can acquire a superpower one day and solve all my problems. I wanted to admonish the things which were troubling me, my family and the ones I loved or cared for. I remember me going to the under-construction house of mine in search of something unnatural only to be stung by a honey-bee. My quest for power continued for long until I discovered that it doesn’t exists. Maybe it was natural for a boy of my age to look for something which fascinated me. But I also wanted it to solve the problems of the ones whom I loved who needed it more than me. I was left disappointed as neither my problems nor theirs were solved. All of us were defeated in some measures by life and the bitter truth was revealed to me. I realized life can’t be like the stories my sister had narrated to me or the t.v. shows I watched.
Years passed and things have improved in my life, I’ve stopped my jejune search for power. All these years, I’ve looked for reasons why I never really got any power. It was foolish of me to think that all the problems in life could be solved so easily. I have learned so much from those hard, tough days. Those experiences have made me a better human being. I guess all of us should look at the problems in our life differently, they are actually blessings in disguise. I am powerless yet powerful. I am wiser and I am mentally stronger not physically though.
Everyone I see around in my life including me is powerful in some sense and most of us misuse it. Most of us love to misuse the power we are gifted. If you are rich, you try to trouble the poor. If you are strong physically, you intimidate the weak ones. If you are intelligent, you fool the stupid ones. This is the way the power has been misused or mishandled by most of us not everyone though. Consider this analogy, the kittens in my hostel are often attacked by a female cat which is turn prone to attacks from a male cat. The male cat has got his own intentions though. Someone more powerful is always trying exhibits his/her power to someone less powerful. It is not necessary but they still love to exhibit their “limited power”. I often run into this fights to save the kittens from the wrath of the older cats. I, here, emerge as the winner because of course I am powerful than a cat but will I be equally victorious if I fight a man? Of course not, the only justification I can give is that I am trying to save the weak ones from the stronger ones.
So why is power out of reach? I am not sure what we will do if we get the power, supernatural powers. We misuse even the smallest abilities we acquire in life. There are people who work hard to become rich and when they become rich they totally forget their past. People with scars don’t bother to scar others. We don’t even deserve what we have today. Look what we have done to our Earth. We kill animals with the guns we have invented. There was a time when humans were afraid of tigers today tigers are afraid of humans. We hunt deer for flesh and skin, we hunt rhinos, we kill elephants and what not. Our lack of understanding of power and may be our of lack of interest in understanding it is the reason why most of us have limited access to the abundant power that can be ours and we never manage to become what we could have become.
