With so many manufacturing processes, sometimes it’s challenging to determine the right one. Extrusion blow molding is a perfect example. Before you invest in a top-of-the-line extrusion blow molding machine from a reputable source, make sure you understand the process and the type of product it yields. That way, you’ll know for certain if this is what your company needs.

Extrusion Blow Molding

The Extrusion Blow Molding Process
One way to determine if extrusion blow molding is right for you is to learn about the process itself. Millions of people use extruded plastic products every day without even realising it. Used to produce bottles and jars for multiple industries, including food packaging, beverage, automotive, medical, cosmetics, household cleaners, and more, the extrusion blow molding process consists of five steps.

Step One
First, plastic pellets go into a heated barrel. A combination of external heat, frictional heat, and pressure transform them into molten material. For the pellets, you can select from many different types of plastics such as HDPE, LDPE, PVC, ePET, PETG, PP, and even bioplastics if you offer your customers eco-friendly products.

Step Two
From there, the now melted resin goes through the extrusion tooling, which is what creates a parison, which is a tube-like piece of plastic with a hole on one end. In other words, the parison is what eventually becomes the finished product.

Step Three
To secure the parison in place, the extrusion blow molding machine closes it in a mould cooled by water.

Step Four
At this point in the blow molding process, the machine forces compressed air into the parison, expanding it in size and thickness of the mould cavity. This step is what forms the hollow bottle, jar, container, or part.

Step Five
Once the now-shaped plastic cools, the lid of the mould opens to eject the finished product.

Buying an Extrusion Blow Molding Machine
Although every extrusion blow molding machine works in much the same way, there are differences. Therefore, it’s imperative that you buy from a trusted source, one with a range of options for your specific needs. Also, consider choosing a machine for extrusion blow molding that has flexibility. For instance, a top machine manufacturer gives you design options including your choice of user-friendly and easy-to-read colour screens and superior-quality controllers.

Gain a Competitive Edge
If you’re tired of watching prospects turn to your competitors instead of your company, now is the perfect time to upgrade your machines.
