I agree, that is a priority. I think the fact that I was still young and unattached, I had a little more latitude to experiment, and I think I just got very lucky, timing-wise. I think if that doctor had never taken me off the lithium, I never would have considered trying to go without it. Prior to going on the lithium, I’d been suicidally-depressed for about 4 months, from the time I’d quit drinking. I also think they’ve come a long way in the treatment regimens they have for it.
