The Country Isn’t Doomed. The World Isn’t Ending.

Our country isn’t doomed. The world isn’t coming to an end. There’s no need to cash in your chips and dig your own grave. Yet, anyway.

For a planet populated (some would say overpopulated) with scumbags and scalawags, we’re doing all right.

Every election since I can remember, the general consensus has been, “We’re doomed. The country is doomed. It’s all over. Poison the Kool-Aid and take a big, final gulp of despair.”

Then, four years later, “We’re doomed. Our country is doomed. Etc. etc. etc.”

For a country that’s been doomed for every one of my 35 years of existence, yet in the face of that doom has managed to become a better place to live, we’re pretty resilient.

And for a world that celebrates seemingly every passing day with another failed end-of-the-world prophecy, we’re still doing our daily spin-around on our axis and taking our yearlong trip around the sun.

Our job? Keep trying to be better today than we were yesterday. And if the majority of us are striving to be better, we’ll be okay…
