The Heart of a (Magic) Teacher…

Famed Radio Host and Money Guru Dave Ramsey has a phrase he uses for his team and local providers. He will only work with someone who has the heart of a teacher. As you probably don’t know, as we’ve just met, I wanted to be a high school teacher for years. I jumped through a lot of hoops, and the stars just didn’t align. Though bummed, I knew I was going to teach in some capacity.

I’ve spent the past 5 years teaching magic part time. I honestly thought that magic might not be as cool as it once was. It took awhile to get some interest going. Starting with a few students (a class of 2) I found myself aiding the lightbulb turning on, as I taught the children: hand eye coordination, ice breaking skills, teamwork, and presentation/public speaking skills. Watching them grow in 6 weeks was a blast. It is only recently (in the past year or so)we found out that “Grownups” also want to learn something new.

I tinkered with the material a bit, and ready to brace a potentially stubborn class, the adults loved it even more than the kids do. After most of these classes, I hear comments such as “I can’t wait to show my kids/grand kids this”, and something to the effect of “ I give presentations at work, and this is going to amaze the office:” I’m sincerely happy I am able to teach share something I am passionate about. The teacher in me feels satisfied.
