Presentations are a normal part of business, if you’ve been in the corporate arena any length of time, you’ve likely been asked to speak to a group of your colleagues. Most presentations aim to persuade business owners and senior managers to take specific steps that will affect the future of the business. Even if an idea is a brilliant“no-brainer,” chances are a presentation to the business stakeholders will be necessary in order to gain their approval.

Here are the four main ingredients that make a presentation powerful enough to persuade your audience.

Speak from Your Diaphragm

A recent study from Duke University suggests that people listen closely to those who have deep voices and managers with deep voices are likely to progress to a leadership role in an organization. It’s not that a person is born with their“presentation voice;” it is possible to develop and alter your voice in order to gain the maximum impact. Don’t believe us? Well, what if we said Morgan Freeman has learned to speak gutturally from his drama teacher when attending his theater school? The trick for this is that you should speak from your diaphragm.

Body Language and Eye Contact

Your body language and your eye contact are also very important for delivering persuasive presentations. Most presenters find it hard to look into the bulging eyes of the audience but practice with practice you can overcome this fear. Also, be animated. Don’t be content to remain in the same place or position, rather keep moving yourself and your hands.

Involve Your Audience

Don’t just saturate your audience with information while standing behind the podium.Involve your audience by asking interactive questions, presenting them with practical cases and asking them regularly if they have any questions. The more the audience participates, the easier they are persuaded by your presentation

Present Your Ideas in a Simple Clear Way

Many managers mistakenly believe that they need to stuff their presentation with slides, charts, graphs, equations and data tables. While this approach may work for technical focused presentations, most presentations are given to audience members interested in a broad overview of what you are talking about.
