Why Are All The Messaging Apps Starting To Look The Same?

If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, I think Snapchat has been feeling like the prom queen as of late. Everyone wants to be just like them.

Instagram introduced their ‘Instagram Stories’ in the summer, WhatsApp just announced their own ‘stories’ feature, and everyone else seems to be falling in line.

With every messaging platform blatantly copying Snapchat, each service is becoming less and less unique.

It’s the general public’s preferred way to share, so It’s easy to see why everyone is scrambling to get a piece of the ‘stories’ pie.

With everyone having their eyes on the ‘stories’ feature, the question needs to be asked — Who is looking to innovate as opposed to copying?

Messaging Needs A Swift Wave Of Innovation

There are hundreds of messaging platforms, and people love each of them for their uniqueness. If this is the case, why is everyone trying to be the same?

The beauty of so many messaging apps lies in their niche. If everyone wants to do the same things, then no one has a niche.

Innovation among these platforms seems to be few and far between lately. What they need to realize is most people are looking for the next new feature, not the same old one.

Do you really want to see Slack implement stories features for your channels? (Actually, that would be pretty sweet.)

The point is, there is going to be a messaging app coming out in the near future that is unique, innovative, and provides people with something they have never seen before.

This dark horse is going to do exactly what Snapchat has done in the past few years.

The Future of Messaging

While everyone is standing still and copying Snapchat, I am going to do things a little be differently.

I am on a mission to develop a unified messaging platform called UNUM messenger.

While I am still in the early stages of development, I plan to launch UNUM messenger in March of 2017 as a Beta. If you would like to be notified when UNUM messenger launches, you can sign up to do so here.

I plan to launch with 5-10 integrations and will continue to grow from there. It’s my dream to build until I can unify all types of communication.

The idea also includes a native messaging platform that has features unlike any of the messaging apps on the market right now.

Summary

Don’t ever get caught up in the hype. It’s like magicians say, “While everyone is looking at what you put right in front of them, the real magic is happening right under their noses.”

“Imitation is cheap, but Innovation is priceless.”
