Amplitude Analytics is a new behavior analytics that has competitors such as Mixpanel. Existing users of Google Analytics compare Amplitude with Google’s.

Google Analytics has new beta features in its traditional version (called Universal Analytics) and there is a Google Analytics 4.0 (GA4).

Similarities:
There are many similar features, such as creating segments(in GA), that are called cohorts (in Amplitude), to select a group of audiences that have specific characteristics. E.g. type of browser, performed events (actions).

They both have some visualization features- choosing bar charts/ pie charts in GA. Amplitude has stronger visualization feature, and a faster loading time.

Main differences:
Amplitude does not collect all page view events by default. With Google Analytics, users just put the tag and have the page view events. Amplitude requires users to define what are the events that are necessary. If there are 15 types of page that are important, it requires manual identification to define rules to track them. Although the tracking should include simple rules only e.g. URL names, the planning would involve a careful consideration and if there are new pages, potentially Amplitude requires new implementation, or update of some event schema.
