Actually, it appears to be strongly genetic. Here is some of the best evidence.

  1. In more sexually equal countries, there are fewer (not more) women in science (ouch).
  2. The female preference for people vs. things is a universal and is greater in more sexually equal countries (ouch).
  3. CAH females (you do know what a CAH female is?) have much more typically male preferences.
  4. Other primates show behaviors quite similar to humans.
  5. One day old babies already show strong sex-linked preferences.

Of course, the greater male variability of talent would put far more men in science even if none of the above was true.

Just the facts. You don’t have to like them. Still the facts.
