Partners, not Sponsors

Last week I was invited to speak at the RunSignUp Symposium in Philadelphia. RunSignUp founder Bob Bickel asked me to talk to the 200 running events in attendance about improving their sponsorship programs. I have a strong point of view on this subject, based on my experience with my own 5K/10K, the LA Marathon, and more recently helping the Malibu Half Marathon. What I’ve learned is that sports sponsorship in 2017 looks a lot different than it did 10 years ago. It’s more about working as partners than sponsors. Below is the video and a Slideshare link to my presentation deck. The sound quality is weak, but it’s still understandable.
