This obsessing about the nature of creativity seems unique to the new millennial fascination with the delusion that they too can be Steve Jobs. A few generations ago the obsessions were with Einstein or Henry Ford. When will people become fascinated with being themselves? How about giving yourself permission to try new things, and explore and have NO EXPECTATION that you will become the next trillionaire genius on the front of a magazine?
I have been an artist all my life, I am completely unknown and unconcerned about the fact because I am focused on living each moment and overcoming each obstacle, not in flaunting my “creativity” or eating some exotic new food stuff to “improve” what I can only improve by continuing to live purposefully and with focus and without concern for fame or fortune. Our culture puts the cart before the horse, the wealth and adulation before the self knowledge or inner peace.
Creativity is not a commodity to be bought, fed, programmed or developed, it is a state of mind, an attitude and the harder you try, the farther away it will flee. Like love, if you stop looking for it and take care of your life and leave an open door, it may sneak in while you are not looking, but the harder you look the harder it will be to find. Of that I am sure.
